Why we recommend getting your teeth straightened

Getting your teeth straightened may seem like self-indulgence, especially if your teeth are only mildly to moderately out of alignment. How can you justify the expense, even if you do have finance to spread the payments?

Or, how can you not? Getting your teeth straightened is, in fact, an investment in their longevity, and in your self-esteem.

Orthodontics in BerkshireLonger-lasting teeth

Teeth that are well lined up against each other are much easier to keep clean. Your toothbrush and floss are far more able to get between them and around the gumline to remove plaque, the enemy of oral health. You can reduce your chances of suffering from dental decay and gum disease, and increase the odds of you hanging onto your teeth, maybe even for your entire life.

If you don’t go down the route of orthodontics, you are more likely to get gum disease, which eventually leads to tooth loss. Orthodontics may seem like an expensive option now, but it is nothing compared to the expenses you can rack up with dentures, bridges and dental implants.

Better self-esteem

When you have a great smile, you use it all the time. You smile at strangers, at colleagues, at friends, everyone really. And they smile back. You find doors opening to you that you never even knew were there, and paths being smoothed for you. It’s how smiling works. You smile. People decide you are a warm, friendly type and that they want to get to know you and help you. And somehow you feel great about yourself, not just because of how you look, but because life seems to be giving you opportunities that weren’t there before. So you smile some more and all that smiling releases natural happy chemicals in your body, like serotonin. It’s an upward spiral.
