Join the straightening movement

Did you know that the biggest growth in terms of dental treatments is in adults having their teeth straightened? Yes, braces in Windsor are as much for grown-ups as they are for children these days.

braces-in-windsorAnd because more and more adults want to have straight teeth, dental researchers have responded to this demand by coming up with braces in Windsor that reflect the needs of adults.

Children can get away with metal braces far more easily than adults can. They only have to go to school, where lots of other children will also be wearing braces. It’s much more unusual to see an adult wearing braces, and so, doing so is still associated with being a kid.

But adults want straight teeth too, and now they can have braces that aren’t made of metal and are also much smaller. Some of them are even pretty much impossible to see.

Here at The Old Windsor Dental Practice, we love treating our adult patients with Invisalign.

What’s Invisalign?

Invisalign is about as far away as you can get from traditional metal fixed braces in Windsor. Instead of metal brackets and wires that are cemented onto the front of the teeth, Invisalign uses a series of very thin, transparent aligners that look like mouth guards. The plastic is so thin that you are hard put to spot anyone wearing Invisalign.

The aligners each have precision-placed ridges inside them. These press on the teeth to get them to move. Each aligner moves the teeth one tiny bit over a period of 7-10 days. This means that each aligner starts off by feeling a bit uncomfortable, but, as the teeth move, that discomfort fades. By the time it’s completely gone, it’s time to move onto the next aligner.

The aligners are not fixed in place. They come out for eating and cleaning, which takes a lot of the hassle out of getting your teeth straightened.

Invisalign treatment takes about a year on average.

Once your treatment is complete, you will need to wear a retainer for some time, to keep the teeth in place while the newly created bone settles down around them.
