Did you know that dental implants are an option for you?

People often panic when their teeth have fallen out and rush into the first dental practice that they see, asking to have them replaced as quickly as possible, without giving much thought to what options are actually available to them. At Old Windsor we have a range of treatments that can replace your teeth, but our more advanced options are becoming more popular.

What are they and how do they restore your smile?

When you get dental implants in Berkshire you will have one or more titanium screws inserted into your jawbone. How many you have will depend on how many teeth you are replacing. If it is just the one tooth then one screw will be used, but when you are replacing several teeth you will not require one screw per tooth, as the screws are capable of supporting more than one artificial tooth each.

Once your screws have been inserted and have had time to heal, your new teeth can be attached to them. You may need a full denture if you are replacing all of your teeth, and this will result in you having a full set of natural looking teeth that function just as your own once did. If you are only missing one tooth then one tooth implant with a crown attached to it is likely to be used to resolve your issue and close the unwanted gap that you had.

If you have more than one tooth missing then their positions will dictate what type of appliance you have fitted. A bridge is usually used when there is a remaining tooth in between the missing ones, and this offers extra support to your original tooth too. If your missing teeth are all next to each other then a partial denture can be fitted to restore them. Both of these treatments will give you back your ability to chew on either side of your mouth with confidence, without worrying about discomfort or pain.

Your new teeth can last for over fifteen years

Once you have had dental implants in Berkshire it is important to take care of your new teeth. This means regular check-ups with your dental practitioner and a strong brushing routine. It is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day, and using a good mouthwash is recommended as well. Flossing can help to stop plaque build-up between your teeth which can help you avoid things like gingivitis and gum disease. Take advice on when to start flossing and mouthwash though, as the area will be sensitive to begin with after the implant procedure.

Depending on what type of appliance you have you may need to clean it differently to your normal teeth. If this is the case then your dental practitioner will advise you of this and make sure you understand how to clean your appliance. They will also be able to recommend products and different types of brushes that will be able to benefit you when it comes to your oral health.

If you take good care of your new teeth then they could last you for up to twenty years. This is a lot longer than alternative treatments and proves that whilst the treatment may be a little more expensive it produces longer lasting results that will keep you smiling for longer too.
